Lib Dems Unitary Decision

Exeter Liberal Democrats are holding a meeting this Saturday to decide where they stand on the possible reorganisation of Local Government in Devon .

The meeting will be addressed by Philip Bostock, the Chief Executive of Exeter City Council who will outline the Exe Estuary bid that would see Exeter and Exmouth and surrounding areas forming a new unitary council with the remainder of Devon forming another.

Phil Norrey, the Chief Executive of Devon County Council will outline the alternative unitary bid that would see Devon forming a single authority.

Lib Dem members will be able to ask each officer about the bids and then they will vote on which one the local party supports.

Graham Oakes, Lib Dem PPC for Exeter described the meeting as "democracy in action."

"Our members will be fully informed of the options and will then vote to decide the Local Party's policy on this important issue. We are grateful to both Chief Executives for giving up their time to attend and answer our questions. "

"Both of the other main parties are controlled top down and would not trust their members to make this sort of decision - the Lib Dems are different."
