Response to Budget

12.10.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 22nd Apr 2009

The Budget is another opportunity missed according to Exeter Lib Dem Graham Oakes.

"This Budget appears to do little or nothing for the vast majority or ordinary people in our city whilst they struggle with rising food, fuel and transport prices."

"Darling should have raised the point in which we all start paying Income Tax to at least £10,000, saving many local people £700, particularly helping the low paid, but I can find nothing in the Budget for them."

"This is another opportunity missed to help the most vulnerable workers in Britain - Darling has turned his back on the working class."

"This Budget is symptomatic of this ailing government, a government that has lost touch with ordinary people, that has run out of ideas and can no longer be distinguished from the Tory opposition. We now face decades of debt, having only just finished paying the USA for the Second World War, this government leave a legacy of neglect of our climate and massive debts."

"This country deserves better".
