In July 2025, we asked for confirmation from Exeter Labour that they wouldn't cancel the 2026 local elections. They said they wouldn't - you can watch the video.

Now that the Labour Minister of State has taken the scandalous decision to invite 60 councils (including Exeter) to cancel their elections this May, we hope Exeter Labour won't go back on their word.

It would only inflict further damage to Exeter Labour's credibility if they choose to cower away from the public by denying us our democratic right to vote.

Every voter deserves to exercise their right to vote on time, not whenever it suits those in power.

The Electoral Commission have hit out at Labour trying to postpone democracy:
“As a matter of principle, we do not think that capacity constraints are a legitimate reason for delaying long planned elections. Extending existing mandates risks affecting the legitimacy of local decision making and damaging public confidence. There is a clear conflict of interest in asking existing Councils to decide how long it will be before they are answerable to voters.”

Having won zero seats in last May's Devon County Council elections, the Labour government are now trying to stop next May's Exeter City Council elections from happening entirely.
