Don't let Labour take away your right to vote.

In July 2025, we asked the Labour leader of Exeter City Council if they planned to cancel the 2026 Exeter City Council elections. They said they wouldn't.

Now the government minister has invited councils with upcoming local government reform to cancel their elections, Labour are jumping at the chance.

The elections are already scheduled and budgeted for. Devon County Council and Teignbridge District Council have offered officer capacity if that's an issue. There's no excuse to cancel democracy this May.

Labour are desperately trying to cling onto power, having been wiped out on Devon County Council last year.

Exeter Labour have requested the 2026 city council elections are cancelled. Every other party and the Electoral Commission have opposed this move. The elections were already scheduled and budgeted for. Labour are simply running scared of the electorate, having won zero seats last year.
